The clip ended and I realised that I'd missed him saying it. She couldn't have been less fazed. Should I be the one saying 'It's Political Correctness Gone Mad!'? (hint hint) I sometimes wonder who it is that makes complaints like this to the BBC or whomever. There is no shortage of people who do not like Chris Evans iof course. So they'd be only too happy to give him a kicking whether they thought the comment racist or not. Some of the journos at the Daily Mail could've bumped the figures up so that the inevitable "political correctness gone mad" story would have more clout.

oh-oh..... didn't think to add inverted commas, or should i say single inverted commas to the word carrot top. oh dear me i'm all in a fluster, should they be double or single? should i have included them (single or double) in the line above as well ? will admin whip my ass, and censor this post and my previous one too - quandaries and questions??? On June 16th I said the following to another member but you might have missed it:
"I do not think that "yanks" is such a problem. But the other two words [darkies and nigger] I do think should be treated differently. Not for the sake of any other member here but because of Proboards' Terms of Service. Bets nearly had her board closed down because of it and I intend to make sure that does not happen here. So if that is your aim then you are wasting your time".
You are probably being sarcastic in your post above but just in case you are not or had not seen my message the first time let me remind you all again that my concern is about being reported to Proboards and then getting shut down. I hope you all want this board to stay up and runnung. So we all have to use our judgement about what words to use. I think that carrot top is not going to have us shut down. Let's hope that Craig does not have red hair and is sensitive about it!
support.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=cmdynastysarcastic? not at all admin - just humour which was meant to be taken as it was intended - lightly.

It wasn't funny or light, pippa (tho sarcasm can be a form of humour, of course) - however you intended it. Move on, and catch up with the rest of us. Tho I'm an anarchist, I can't fault admin so far (tho I would if I could.)

This is an example of what we're talking about mel. In case you haven't noticed the altered heading, the 'experiment' is over, and it was judged a failure.
You can be as 'funny' as you like now, it doesn't alter the fact that, given the same opportunity as everyone else, both you and 'Mary' were the ones who brought personalisation into the discussion. Neither of you can help it really. Well, perhaps she can, but you don't plan it, something just strikes you as a grand idea on the spur of the moment, and with no inner voice to sound that note of caution, it probably never even crossed your mind that you had blundered in there...

Yep, 'Some people just can't take a joke' is right up there with 'I'm not a racist, but...' You'll love this (I hope): www.notracistbut.com/A couple of students have trawled face book for this phrase where of course the very next line is invariably - racist. Enjoy.

I have to admit Jean that the Cadbury's thing is rubbish. First off she's not a "Diva" in my book. A drama queen maybe. A vicious, violent thug, maybe. God knows she's been had up enough times for it. Then there was that disgusting business about the 'blood diamond'. I also think that it's a bit rubbish if they expected the humourless bugger to just blithely accept that they were going to use her name in their ad without payment or even asking for her permission. She was probably miffed about not getting the going rate for doing fuck-all. So the company I think are naive at best and guilty of employing a crap ad agency at worst. But racist? I think it's stretching it a bit to say that just because her skin tone is roughly the same colour as the product then they have insulted her (and by implication all black people). Jodie Marsh and a thousand other 'tan-bed' idiots look like chocolate too. Perhaps they should have picked her? As for the Chris Evans thing. After looking at the clip I am not convinced that he meant the quip in that way. I think Aqua was on the right lines here; we have come to accept that Jim Davidson is a racist because of years and years of hearing him make "jokes" that eventually lead us to that conclusion. Whereas whatever we may think about Chris Evans he does not have that track record and so I think he deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. I would, of course, be more sympathetic to the claims of racism if the black woman herself said that she was offended by the remark and felt he was deliberately being rude, but so far it looks like she is okay with it. I think that we are on dodgy ground when we start getting offended on people's behalf.
I had not heard of the Campbell/chocolate thing before. I half expected somebody to recall the other 'One Show' racism business where Mrs Thatcher's daughter (Carol?) got the sack for comparing somebody to a golliwog. On that occasion I think that was probably racist but maybe a bit of a bollocking rather than sacking? I don't know.

My feeling is that we sometimes use the term 'racist' for something sub-racist, but still, I think, in the same ball-park.
The people who do use it are probably just wanting to hasten that end that they, I think, and I, certainly, desire: that we should relate to the person, not react to their colour.
It's not easy, but it can be done. And how much happier we would be!

So even jokes have to be politically correct to make aqua "happier".
Poor sod. Is he like this in real life, to borrow a phrase?

the experiment doesn't apply to aqua, of course, so he's can smash what he likes - or maybe he thinks he's invisible.
~~
mind you i disagree that skin colour should be invisible. after all black is beautiful, innit? it's not a requirement to remark on it but neither should we have to be soooo careful, it cannot be mentioned.
don't mention the war!!!!!!
