Yes, you get it, jean! "refusal to be defined" Well done! But, aviatrix, like aqua, is sending mixed messages! They admit their sex in posts but not on the application form. Do they think they are "dissing The Man" thereby? Why this disconnect? I would say because they are still mired in the same passé gender agenda pursued by the sistas that led to nonsense like authoress and poetess being eschewed and deprecation of the failure to achieve the strict demographic ratio of male to female in Parliament, onboards of directors. etc. Do they also refuse to state their race/ethnicity on forms? Great stuff, these little pieces of cyber rebellion! Good old aqua! Always ready to man the barricades of ideology on behalf of his lady pals! A true feminist! (Or did I mean "gentleman"?) The only person here (or on any board I've ever joined) who has a "gender agenda" is you! Nobody else here seems to care at all whether anybody on your little list is male or female, only you. And the only reason you seem to care is so you can tailor your insults to the member concerned. Well tough! I won't play your silly games.

Of course Pippa will be along in a short while to say that she cares.

Aqua, I am "arrogantly and obsessively" following up on a point made by pippop who apparently thinks stating true facts about oneself is dangerous. I merely "speculated" on the reasons for refusing to state ones gender on the board registration form. You, aqua, are one of a mere handful to have prevaricated about this. I think I was quite accurate about your case, aqua - misplaced "solidarity". But if I am wrong, tell me why, mon petit choux! Mon petit choux does not agree. Grammatically, that is. You must either say ‘mes petits choux’ or ‘mon petit chou’. I’ve never really understood the attraction of a little cabbage – what good is that? So, my big fat cabbage, you want me to tell you where you’ve been going wrong in your presumptions, do you? And you think I’m going to cooperate with a control freak? Oh, go on then. You sound like the press, TV and radio. We never hear of people declining to, omitting to, forgetting to, or not being around to: it’s always refusing to. In several areas of my life when I have to fill in a form, paper or online, I generally don’t give information that is optional, unless I can see it would be helpful to a laudable non-commercial organisation, or if it would be unduly discourteous to withhold it. Thus here I also do not disclose my age or email address, or use a signature. If I wanted to show solidarity with something or some constituency, I would express it explicitly when relevant. No, MR, you’re barking. Up the wrong cabbage tree.

trouble with aqua is that he comes over all coy and sometimes rather charming even sweet but let your guard down and he'll whack a dirty punch. and yet he is insulting as anyone can be but will complain about marchesa being rude. can a well trained footsoldier ever be trusted to engage honestly.

But to return to points made upthread. “it's common knowledge what "ffs" stands for”. Yes, well spotted, pippop, it is common knowledge amongst English speakers and most message boarders but surprisingly you were not aware of Jerry being short for Jeremy. Why? Re. “the language marchesarosa uses to describe women” and “why Marchesarosa seems to hate women” and “your choice of words to describe women day in and day out”. A little hyperbole I think, here, pippop. And “hate” is far too strong a word. I feel, rather, contempt mingled with despair, but only for CERTAIN women, and not because of their sex but for their being willing carriers and disseminators of crassness. So, no need to over-egg the pudding re my purported “hatred” of “women”! Is that in your cultural repertoire, by the way? And when I say “hateful epithets” it is only picking up on YOUR remark about my “hating women”. “Hateful” is actually an adjective from the word hate. But perhaps your English class did not get as far as such nuances? Not that your use of English is bad, by any means, pippop. Excellent for someone for whom it appears to be a second language. But it’s not surpising that a lot of the allusions on this board go right over your head. Re. “why should my apparent ignorance about the vocabulary of a popular TV presenter signify anything at all about my brain?” Because you have dived into this thread fully clothed and seem to miss that it is Clarkson’s language and persona and impact that is the subject of discussion here allied to the ire he raises in certain quarters. “Girlie” is a Clarkson word. I have simply borrowed it and applied it to PC faux-feminists. It’s an attempt linguistically to turn the tables on them, but my attempt to use a paradox to humorous effect has clearly failed with you. Similarly with the Cakeboard “gels”. But don’t worry if you didn’t follow. “Gels” is just another ancient British cultural allusion you don’t “get”. Think Joyce Grenfell and St Trinians! Re. Trying to “belittle” you? Moi? My, my, you’re a sensitive soul! I’m just sad that so much of my “chat” is lost on you. And remember, most of the recent long-running threads on this board are attempts to belittle ME. But fat chance! The bumptious just don’t succumb to it. Re. “Girly blouse”? another idiom at half cock. It’s “big girl’s blouse”, pippop, and it’s usually a put-down aimed at men. Is there anything else I can help you with concerning British idioms? What people discuss with interlocutors on message boards, pippop, has always to be put “in the context” of who they are and what they have experienced together and as individuals. This applies to you as well as to everybody else and though you wish to conceal where YOU are coming from it shines through. The claim about my purported “hatred of women” and previous attempts to pin "racism" on me reveal more about you than me, pippop. You don’t understand either MY context or the context of this board and its more venerable denizens. You just read the words. We have “history” on this board - even regarding “pink”, to which I alluded and Jade picked up in her usual graceful way. Your disparaging ignorance of our walk down Memory Lane does you no favours, pippop. Yes. But I was telling Pippa that you probably were one of those very message boarders who knew that. And I thought it best to remind her that you have a 'thing' about swearing. If Pippa upsets you what then! Who's going to takeoffencebyproxy for you. (I made that word up you know.) I didn't say that I wasn't aware of that fact. You'll have to use quote boxes. Then people won't think that you're fabricating things or even lying. I must have caught it off you. Telling people they hate Jeremy Clarkson, for example. When they don't. But not men? Something men never do? Hatred of women or egg custards? I see you have once more resorted to insults and insinuation about my intelligence. Do you feel a little better about yourself now? That may be true (I doubt it) - but it still doesn't follow that I ought to be well-up on the catch phrases of a celebrity that you "lurve". No it isn't it's an English word which is used by many people including Jeremy Clarkson. Who, from the examples you have given, uses it in the same way as the rest of the population. Including me. It's you and Pippa that seem to have the difficulty with it both in your separate ways. Maybe it'll catch on. Like censortrolliat; another of mine. A failed attempt. Don't give up the day job. Oh I'm familiar with the term. But I'll wager that you are the only one who knows why you use it. Actually... maybe you don't even know yourself! I think you should use the quote boxes. Yes I am aware of that phrase. Jean will know, even if you (really) don't, that I was not alluding to that phrase. However, it has already been noted that on the very rare occasions that you want to "put-down" a man your preferred choice of insult is to compare him in some way to a woman. The ultimate insult! Thanks for reminding us. Wait a minute; "your English class", "your use of English" - We're back in this territory aren't we: ...not of the indigenous British population. You think that I am Gillo; one of your memory lane people. I couldn't care less about that. But for some reason you like to poke this person (whoever she is) with the "fact" that she wasn't born here and that's why this post of yours is peppered with innuendo about my understanding of the English language and its idioms. This sort of thing is precisely why I choose not to share any personal information with you. Thank you for using my name (pippop) during this post and recent posts. I think it shows admirable restraint on your part. I had thought you'd not be up to it but you've proved me wrong. I hope that you, in turn, are pleased that I have kept my language "clean". (unlike Pippa.) I look forward to reading posts from you in which you are as scathing towards men as you are women. As for the racism; I would be wasting my time trying to convince people that you are a racist. I take it you are referring to replies #63 (from me) and #64 (from Jade)? I don't think you should be lecturing me about memory. You see, I don't really think you are a liar - just forgetful.

Sez you!. Pure invention on your part, pippop, just like my purported misogyny. Repeating it does not make it so. And have you noticed you have found no supporters for this assertion here? You're on your own, lady! Why? Because you cannot read through the words to the meaning and you don't understand the "historical" context of the board.
It must already be obvious that I am pretty good at spotting the sex of my interlocutors whatever they state on their registration - whether they simply conceal or actually lie. My point is, why does a small subset of the board persist in this faux "feminist" trait?
By the way, the most frequent "insult" I use here and elsewhere is "prat" and that is unisex as far as I'm concerned (except when in fun I occasionally feminize it - and that has a history that involves another walk down Memory Lane with our resident professoressa that is so boring to you). "Whited sepulchre" is reserved for particularly egregious behaviour and "shithouse" for when I am really cross with our mod!
Pippop, your perennial lack of appreciation for my epithets reveals you to be a humourless prat. Is it something I said?

This obsession with sexual equality is what is so crass about certain feminists, pippop.

Not true. But tell me, you folk who make a point of not disclosing your gender, why ever not? "Gender undisclosed" on this board and possible reasons: Aqua ........................ solidarity with the sistas Aquatic ......................as above Aviatrix .....................as above/misdirection Ben Zene ..................unknown/misdirection Jamesjosh ................ solidarity with the sistas/misdirection jamierollo ................. as above monsoon ...................as above pippop .......................as above sweetjessicajane ........ unknown visitor ....................... solidarity with sistas/misdirection so the only reason people have for not disclosing gender is "solidarity with the sistas" (ie not being a sista themselves? Maybe its cos they know if they say how male they are you will fawn over them, and if they say they are a girl you will berate them all your fault Marchesa, always

Jade, are you revealing a girlie inability to read a table? Well, you would not be the first one on this board and its precursors.
I speculated about 3 possible alternatives for the choice of "gender undisclosed" - solidarity, misdirection and unknown.
For such a small subgroup of the board's membership, I think three options are quite enough!
I'm afraid you have lost me with your esoteric interpretation of "solidarity". Be careful! Looks like pink can affect brain function.
