what a wonderfully upbeat 'kyrie' i heard on John Snow's Desert Island Discs.
as soon as i find the particular one he chose i'll post it up. has to be that one though because of the strong and uplifitng piano tempo that runs through it - it sounded so contemporary. i'd love to hear it again.
Gioachino Rossini Gioachino Rossini — The Kyrie Artist: Michel Piquemal Petite Messe Solennelle. Accord
i'd be delighted if anyone is aware of a link to it.

The Rossini is a great piece. I'm glad he picked a version with the original accompaniment - two pianos and a harmonium, very unusual, and presumably dictated by what Rossini had available for the occasion. he does wonderful things with it. Aware that the combination of instruments he'd used might not be easily come by, Rossini arranged it himself for symphony orchestra, but it's not the same: www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4YhzMGEyrU

nice one jean. although what makes the michel piquemal so special to my ears and jon snow mentioned it also, is its irreverence. makes me want to dance.
as this thread is to do with sung mass, this is the kyrie from a congolese mass - misa luba. i've got it on vinyl, and since i cant locate the correct needle for my turntable i've missed listening to it so have to rely on utube with occasional buffering interruptions.
the sanctus is divine. also used by lindsey anderson in 'if'.
