and not quite goodbye and thanks for all the fish as it appears to be on MCL. I don't understand, pippa. Could you explain? (I realise it's a deficiency in my nature to want to understand what I read, but there it is, I can't help it.) oh just random unconnected humour jean.... in other words a bit of nonsense. MCL appears to have been abandoned for a day. ought i apologise if my humour fails you? humourphobic?

ought i apologise if my humour fails you? Of course you oughtn't, pippa. Just try to make it a bit funnier next time, so it'll be really obvious that it's just random unconnected humour and nothing to do with particular threads anywhere, nor another attempt at confrontation.

I didn't say more obvious, pippa. But the best jokes are both clever and subtle. Well you see, pippa, the only times you ever post on any board I also post on (except on a totally uncontroversial subject such as fish) it turns out to be something to do with confronting me with my hounding and bullying of other posters. It won't have escaped your notice that almost the only other active thread on this board is one which was spawned from a thread on the marchesa's Science board about gay marriage. This thread, you informed us in your first post on it, was set up as an exercise in bashing the marchesa. A similar thread had a lively existence on MCL but has now been dead for a while, probably because the marchesa and I have been discussing the issues involved here. Given this, and the fact that the marchesa's own marriage was mentioned on this thread, it does seem that you are making some reference to all these things. (Why a board becomes moribund, either temporarily or terminally, is an interesting question. MCL has in fact thrived on controversy, rudeness and bad temper. Just look at the exchanges between jonjel and exco.)

i don't make any claims to best humour jean. just my own quirky style. if it falls flat so what. you are reading far too much into what was just a light quip. i wondered at the confrontation remark you made.
as to:
how all this is connected to my quip is pure paranoia, believe me. you've so missed the mark.

If you want people not to miss whatever mark you have in mind, pippa, perhaps you would do better not to invite anyone reading to associate me with these images: www.politicsforum.org/images/flame_warriors/swarm.jpgwww.politicsforum.org/images/flame_warriors/cybersisters.jpgWhich, I'll remind you, you have done on this board not once but twice recently. Had you not done so, and had you not (in your own special way) hinted at the bashing you claimed was going on, or mentioned (yet again) the bullying you felt obliged to confront its perpetrator with, your charge of paranoia might stick. But it won 't, because you did write all that stuff. I cannot tell you how tired I am of this behaviour. I'm sick to death of it. But confronting you with it never seems to do any good, so convinced are you of your own righteousness.

More information than we need methinks....... None of us need information about another member I agree but as the Marchesa seems to be quite happy to discuss the subject (see reply #8) and as marriage is a bit of a hot topic right now then I think it's very interesting to get her real life experience on the matter. I know it's digressing from your fish subject and I apologise for that, Jonjel, but that's the nature of messageboards isn't it? (I bet there's loads more recipes for Sydney Pollack online than could be provided by the handful of posters here anyway.)

FWIW - I was aware that Pippa was alluding to a famous quote from Douglas Adams (Hitch-hiker's Guide?) so knew it was meant to be funny but I still couldn't work out how it applied to the other board.
Come back Jimmy Carr all is forgiven...
(that was a joke - forgive me if you don't get it.)

I did realise that, pippop, but I detected a purpose behind the intended humour. Was I wrong? Well, pippa says so. But if she wants her posts to be taken at face value, maybe she should try not to fill so many of them with hints about another poster's malevolence. Then their simple innocent humour can shine through.

If fish is going to be so controversial then I think I will opt for the beef.
Yes, but to be fair he is a pretty easy target. He sets himself up like a bunny in the headlights and waits for the thump.
There is no need to apologise. If a poster wants to reveal parts of their private life that must be a matter for them. I too am a very happily divorced man, but to give any details as to why that should be, or why I have never re-married would be a step too far (many would say - impossible to live with!)

I can only think it's because you were so shocked at the idea of gay people possibly being allowed to marry that you decided to contribute to the breakdown of society by eschewing the institution yourself...
