I think you are confusing "Christians" with a handful of fundamentalists who interpret Genesis literally. But since Genesis is not a book of the New Testament and not written by Christians I don't really know why they take it so seriously. It is one of the optional extras for followers of Jesus I would have thought and not something people of an enquiring mind would worry about. Do YOU believe in God, yourself, visitor? Why do YOU worry about it in others? Incidentally, Christian Palaeontologists suffered from precisely the cognitive dissonance you identify, pippop. www.religioustolerance.org/ev_date.htmHow do YOU account for own mental rigidity with all the advantages of education you must have enjoyed?

I think that we all know who has the problem with it.

Well, dear, we only have your word that I am wrong in my attribution in the absence of any good faith information about yourself from you.
So I'll stick with my own judgement until I learn otherwise.
And I'll keep picking up on otherwise surprising ignorance of the English Language and try to explain some of the richness of our wonderful language.

You have yet to identify what you think is an example of ignorance of the English Language where Jean has not pointed out that it is you who has completely got it wrong! Gives everyone a laugh so keep it up!

If you were capable of making your point with any clarity one could respond but your reference lacks specificity and your point is therefore lost.
Still, you obviously find me "engaging" or you would not otherwise still be hanging around, would you, without ever deigning to discuss the subject of the thread?

...you obviously find me "engaging"... Not engaging, no. Funny is the word. Uproariously but unintentionally hilarious.

I was using "engaging" in the sense of "worthy of a response" not in the sense of being "charming". Dearie me, I would not assume that!
You just cannot resist responding to my posts no matter how far off topic you take the thread. Visitor and I had managed to stay on topic without TOO much difficulty, but you, as always, want to turn the thread into YET ANOTHER opportunity to have a go at me. What a little one trick pony you are with all your clever pseudonyms and how easily pleased your giggling chum is!
Isn't it time for your shift on the Sharia child marriage thread?

Just like you are doing now. Hypocrite. Look, Pippa'll be along in a minute to say how she's getting all upset on your behalf with a bit of proxyfence. Could you PM her and put her straight about how much you really love the attention and it's all you've got in the world. And if you had any sense you'd ignore people like me but you can't because this is your whole world Blah, Blah...

As I said, Visitor and I managed to stay on topic. Why can't you? there is no disgrace in attempting to remind trolls of the thread topic they should be discussing. Geddit?

“God’s word is true. I’ve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell,”
“It’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a saviour. There’s a lot of scientific data that I found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I believe that the Earth is about 9,000 years old. I believe that it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.” The speaker of these words is a US Congressman who actually sits on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. This is scary stuff, regardless of whether we wish it or not, the USA is a very powerful force and, despite the rise of China and India, will continue to be a powerful force for many years. That Americans actually voted for this man is terrifying if it is an indication of their beliefs. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/republican-congressman-says-evolution-is-lie-from-hell-8202896.html

Scary? You are easily scared, visitor.
I find political correctness much more scary.
The congressman is simply exercising his right to freedom of conscience and free speech. Would you like to ban him from standing for office, put him in a psychiatric ward, send him off for hard labour or gas him and pop him in the incinerator?
Please spell out how you would vet candidates for office to ensure we only get the best? Would they be people like you, like aqua, like jean and like pippop? Heaven forbid!
p.s. And while you are at it, please find time to be "SCARED" about the Ayatollahs and Islamic fundamentalists working hard to obtain a nuclear weapon, since matters regarding religion and science seem to frighten you.
You have uncritically latched on to the the geo-politics/Christian-fundamentalism meme that is now infecting the board. Anywhere for a toffee apple, eh, so long as you think you are wrong-footing the people who disagree with your sad worldview!
Why not try arguing a case rather than taking the short cut of smearing opponents?

Once again you seem to be hard of understanding - is English your native language?
I have no trouble with this man holding whatever crazy crack pot ideas he wants - that's his choice and I have not suggested otherwise so please retract that allegation.
I do have a problem with the American people who thought he was an acceptable representative and voted him in to office and I do have a problem with him deciding science policy for what is (arguably) still the most powerful country in the world.
What do you think about people, deciding science policy, who believe evolution is being taught by devil worshipers whose sole purpose is to prevent people from turning to God?
BTW - I feel the same about any fundamental religious beliefs but there are, as yet, no mullahs in USA deciding science policy.
Please don't change the subject (look squirrel) by mentioning Iran, etc as I am specifically discussing America as they still have a unique position of authority in the world.
