Why is the English speaking world so beguiled with wind power? The red line — that’s total electricity demand in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania over 2011. The blue line is the total generation from the 25 most recently constructed Wind Plants in that same 5 State area. Courtesy of the National Electricity Market. (NEM) Note how the total demand average is between 22,000 and 28,000MW. Wind power from those 25 new plants generates as much as 650MW (the blue line). That’s 2.6%. This is from a total Nameplate Capacity of 2072MW being generated from those 25 Wind Plants which are made up of 985 huge towers. The unchanging 24 hour minimum requirement for power, the base load, is 17,000 MW running day and night.

Just a quick check at 8 am today on the coldest day this year so far..... total electricity demand 50GW. This is supplied by 24GW of coal, 17 GW of gas, 8 GW of nuclear and..... 0.23GW of wind. Yes, you read that correctly, 0.23GW or one half of one percent.

It is now 0.124 or one fifth of one percent.

On a VERY cold and frosty morning wind is currently generating 0.8% of our electricity, 394MW.

On another very cold and frosty day wind is now delivering for us 0.92 GW of a total demand of 51.76 GW.(1.78%)
And Jean thinks gas-fuelled electricity generation should be eschewed because it is "dirty"? What does HER central heating run on? Has she turned it off to prevent "dirt" escaping into the atmosphere? Put your comfort where your mouth is, lady, if you wish to be taken seriously.

I would like to see Jean's own words (after the Anders Breivik debacle) so could you provide a link please?

Jean used the word "dirty", pippop.
She may well have been quoting some Green Party or Green Peace propaganda but she quoted it approvingly. "Dirty" was the word used to describe the gas fuelled power stations that it is now government policy to have built.
Ask her for confirmation, you're joined at the hip aren't you, instead of making your usual ridiculous demands of me for sources, as if there is no basis for my statements.
You should know by now, pippop, that I don't make unsupported statements or claims.
If I have misrepresented her opinion of gas fuelled power stations she can speak up for herself.

It is the opening post in the "toxic plot" thread. It is a quote from a Green Peace press release, though there is no evidence of that in the post, just a piece of purple prose. Right now plans are being drawn up that could see dozens of new dirty gas power stations built in the UK. If their plans go ahead, it risks decades of carbon emissions and losing thousands of new green jobs.thesequal.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=climate&thread=748&page=1

What is your view of natural gas as a fuel, pippop.
Perhaps you could make a genuine contribution to the matters discussed in this thread?

Why do you make stupid allegations when you can just do a simple search, pippop, to satisfy your curiosity?
I just searched the board for "dirty" and found what I wanted immediately. No googling required at all! You could have done that, too, except it was more beguiling for you to cast aspersions on my honesty.

Jean does links - hurrah! How did you find out it was Greenpeace, did you use Google? Well, however you did it you got there in the end and so you must know that the words were not Jean's. See how things can look differently when you know the context? Heavens! (Cultural Christian Heaven.)

(Which is why you have not provided a quote or link to any such thing!) And you saying that I have made stupid allegations has cast aspersions on my honesty. Please provide links to the things that you think people have said and stop making things up. Thank you.
