This an interesting book (by Leanda de Lisle) about the lives of the Grey sisters, nieces of Henry VIII. Most people have heard of Lady Jane Grey, but not much attention is paid to her sisters, Mary and Katherine or there cousin, Margaret Clifford. Ironically, most of Henry VIII's heirs were women. Interesting as well is the fact that in his will (and the wills of Edward VI) the throne would have gone to one of the Grey sisters or to their descendants. Thus Scotland and England would not have been "united". It is a sobering thought how much a countries history or governs it was set on a particular course by a birth, marriage of death

I've recently finished "The Other Bolyn girl" about Anne's sister, Henry VIII's earlier, though not first, mistress
fascinating stuff.
Really interesting about the men controlling the families - they were Howards, and how they were in familial competition with the Seymours. the men would hurl them at power like so much flotsam, and previous marriages and commitments all forgotten in the grab for the riches to be had if your girls were whore enough
Mind you, Anne got her own back on the Archbishop of York and Cardinal, Thomas Wolsey, spectacularly. Good for her.

Eh? Where did that come from?
