Please quote me, jean, where I have boasted about the "scientific competence" of members of the science board. We are merely more interested than the general public in matters scientific and generally better informed.
I seem to remember only having disputed that YOUR tedious grammarian nit-picking was out of place in debates about science. Your admitted ignorance of the AGW debate and reliance on people you claim are "authorities" rules you out, too.
I read a remark today that sooo reminds me of you and your ilk, jean -
Nowadays the Left (commonly disguised in the mufti of the Politically Correct) ARE the Establishment. Fortunately the Science Board is able to function quite adequately without their input - even when PC pals of yours try to close it down on inane pretexts like the use of the term "fuzzy-wuzzy". Really, jean, you should be more selective in your choice of pals!
By "Establishment" I refer mainly to the Public Sector in the UK, though even the private sector is not immune to the advantages of adopting the conventional wisdom or social orthodoxy of Political Correctness when it suits their purpose.
I think, News International has recently discovered that it may have lost the control it though it exercised over the British Establishment.
But returning to my point, it must be intellectually painful to have switched from "Question Authority" mode to "Swim with the PC Tide" mode for the likes of jean. Or has she even noticed it happening?
When you are always right, I suppose one does not notice these (not so) subtle changes in ones relationship to Establishment cadres and propaganda. But there certainly IS a difference between fighting the Establishment sixties-style and the petty harassment of those one disagrees with on message boards half a century later, isn't there?

What a change for the Left, going from “Question authority” to “Don’t deviate from the mainstream.” And then establishing this as the standard for teaching climate change.
