The question of whether he did or did not know what he was carrying is crucial when deciding his capacity, surely - though there are many factors to be considered in the process of answering it. re. factors: i'm bipolar. i get manically high and think i can do ANYTHING YAY! my doctor gives me loadsa pills so i can live in the community without being a threat to myself or others ..... n.b. and it's all courtesy of the hard working Tax Payer! Fantastic! my mum feeds me loads of food that i like lots ...mainly burgers and chips and stuff i'm WELL fed mum is well stressed, but that's ok - because you lot pay for her council tax and rent & therapy and drugs too you are so kind ! ___________________ in the real world families cope with, and pay for, their own bipolar kin - why should you lot be billed if nearest and dearest can't be arsed?

A friend has bi-polar; we are no longer close since I moved away. She is highly qualified but has lost nearly every job she has tried, and is now on benefits doing voluntary work . From what I can gather her illness is getting worse and she has spent periods in hospital.
However she used to travel abroad quite a lot; after we became friends she secured a two-year contract in Columbia working on a land survey project there and in Nicaragua. She lived with a local family and learnt Spanish, was mugged three times, and says in all that time there was no sign of her illness.
It was hard to understand that.

Apparently it was (I haven't watched the video). Its head was kept cool with a wet towel.
And I know that we're not brilliant, either. But the people who do it - like the lobster thing - are kind of defensive about it - saying it doesn't hurt, etc (as if they could know).
One of the nastiest things I've seen in that line was a French bloke saying that geese like being force fed, as they appreciate the wonder of the pate that comes from it. Some people can convince themselves of anything.
The chinese attitude seems to be more, that cruelty either doesn't matter, or is a good thing (as long as you're not on the end of it). Not all chinese, I know.

You are cynical But to add to the story he was actually homeless and living in Poland......... one advantage of the free movement of EU citizens he wasn't on the streets of London or claiming our social security Clearly delusional cos he cant sing !!!! We will never know what his actual diagnosis was - cos the Chinese never found a Dr to examine him China has no respect for Human Rights - for their own citizens or foreigners.

Apparently it was (I haven't watched the video). Its head was kept cool with a wet towel. sounds too horrible. there's also the live monkey brain delicacy or maybe its apocraphyl (sp) ------ apparently he wasn't aware he was carrying heroin which to me sounds perfectly feasible if he was a gullible and trusting person. who knows he might have thought he was being helpful and not questioned what that package he carried contained. it would be too prohibitive to individuals with mental health problems if they were restricted from traveling if neither a danger to themselves or to others. it just puzzled me what backup might have been in place not that there necessarily should have been, or that others are answerable. heaven forbid anyone be prevented from going anywhere on their own without a backup plan. not knowing his particular circustances are we in a position to judge. two very close friends of mine are bipolar. trauma during childhood seems to have been the trigger. i dont think crap diets were the issue at all.

If we were to try and influence any other country to get rid of the death penalty, surely we should start with our American cousins? After all we do have a "special relationship" so it shouldn't be too hard.

Neither could/can Dylan. Or MES. Or lots of them. He probably wasn't a good vocalist either, though.

Of course not! Everyone knows that Human Rights are a Judaeo-Christian concept - certainly not accepted by Muslims nor by others of a totalitarian mindset either.
I am really surprised that so many of you don't grasp this.
Most of us have been lucky enough to be raised and educated in a place where the rule of law, democracy and human rights are honoured concepts. These values are, nevertheless, under attack from many sources both within and outside our society. We should be safeguarding our own institutions and values before bleating about the values practised in other benighted locations across the globe. We can do nothing about THEIR standards.

Bets! Bets! Dylan is a brilliant vocalist. All I meant was, being able to sing well is overrated. All them beggars off X factor can sing. They're none of them a patch on Dylan (or MES).

We can, though. China has changed, a bit, over the last 30 years, because it wants to be accepted into the club. It can change more.

Which club, aubrey?
seems more likely to me that the powers that be in West will accommodate to China, I fear, than vice versa.
After all, it is only us citizens, the little people, (no, not elves!) who value our freedoms. The elite cares not a toss. Power is everything to them, not democracy. They operate outside it.

Yes, maybe you're right about China, now, what with Google and Yahoo changing their rules to accommodate them.
