More than 200 spectators braved the bitter cold to watch the first speed skating races on the frozen Cambridgeshire Fens for 13 years.

Not only did Niagara Falls freeze over in 1848 and 1911, it also froze over again in 1932.
It did not freeze solid, however, as there were a few trickles of water that still flowed.

Major snowstorm headed for eastern US

This national radar mosaic shows huge amounts of gathering moisture ready to collide with frigid air. The storm gets the label “Nor’easter“.

Forecasters all over are watching this storm with concern.

From Accuweather.com a forecast for the mid-Atlantic suggests Washington DC might get dumped on big time:
“Accumulations have the potential to reach 2 feet in some areas, matching or exceeding snowfall from the December blizzard.”
The Weather Channel seems to agree:

“High-populated areas of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania will likely all experience big snow totals.  Washington, DC and Baltimore could experience foot plus snow totals.”

From the “weather is not climate department”, it seems that the biggest snowstorm of all time is targeting the nation’s capitol.

The snowfall projection has been zooming all day, from midteens to 24", to 26",to 28", and the latest I’ve seen is now 30".
Having been through snowfalls of that magnitude here in Minnesota, where the infrastructure for dealing with snow is
much more developed than in D.C. which is often paralyzed by little more than a minor flurry, I suspect they could end up shut down for
a week or more. Personally I see that as nothing but a positive prospect.

So, it happened back in 1922 so not "unprecedented", then?


In case people are confused by anthropgenic global warming morphing by political sleight of hand into "climate change"
they should remember that C02 cannot cause "climate change" without FIRST passing through the stage of "warming".

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.
The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming:

Another east coast snowstorm brewing

Forecasts of another 20 inches of snow in Washington DC with snow spreading to NYC this time. Storm systems barreling across the country may bring as much as 20 inches (50 centimeters) of new snow to Washington and Baltimore starting late tomorrow, while New York may receive a foot, forecasters said.
