Does "Impertinent question" mean one that you can't answer?
(By the way, the last time I heard the word impertinent, it was in the sentence, "Don't be impertinent, boy," and it was usually used when you'd come up with something that couldn't be answered. So, the last resort of the beaten, then.)

I think it is a super blimpish way of closing a rancorous dispute elegantly.
We all know what it means.

Whatever your reasons, joe, the fact remains that you tried to silence spesh.
I said I considered that vindictive.
If spesh has also tried to silence you, I consider that vindictive too - more so, in that spesh would be attempting to 'avenge' a perceived wrong, for which the revenge element in the word's original meaning would be appropriate.
So perhaps a better word for your behaviour would just be censorship pure and simple, or at least inconsistency since you are yourself such a champion of free speech.
And to omit your role in silencing spesh while accusing him of trying to silence you is intellectually dishonest to a breathtaking degree.
Why did you want to silence spesh?
If it was because you thought his interventions got in the way of the discussions you wanted to have and kept other people from posting, then it needed to be pointed out that even in the absence of spesh, not many people want to talk to you anyway.
Sad, but true.
(I am not clear btw whether by impertinent you mean rude, as in jj's example, or just irrelevant.)

Why should joe care about the attentions of the masses when he has the creme de la creme dancing attendance on him, including you, auntie.

If he doesn't care, marchesa, then there's no reason for him to be so anxious to get rid of spesh, is there?
He clearly cares about something.
But what is it?

Oh dear! Another of those conversations going nowhere for the shear hell of it.
I'm back to my blog.

I notice that you only scuttle off to your blog when you're losing the argument, marchesa.
FTR I would like to point out that although you are (AFAIK) quite wrong about any coordinated effort to get rid of you, you are also quite consistent in your free-speech stance in that you don't (AFAIK) try to silence anyone else.
Unlike joe.

There is no such thing as absolute freedom of speech and you seemed happy enough when I censored Toad from insulting you, so inconsistency is certainly not a factor. No, there isn't - but once you have conceded that, then it's the details that have to be argued over. I would myself except personal insult - especially accusations of depravity that are not only untrue, but that the reader has no means of checking the veracity of - from the right to free speech on messageboards. I also think there is a case for censoring overt racism or homophobia even when they are not directed at a particular individual, though I think the best strategy here is to answer those posts (though that can be time-consuming, and how many people really want to waste their lives on the likes of JSG? ) Only after I challenged you on it, though.

I've made my point though, joe, as you clearly realise.

i suggest everyone make themselves familiar with the ToS - it's a shame that there are some very sad folk about who like to destroy what other people make.

Why thank you Marchesarosa - that is the first time anyone has said I am the creme de la creme These postings make me feel at home - spesh, mr, jean, liberal joe all arguing - all we need now is someone to come on and post "pass the wine gums" and we will be back to the old BBC Womanshour messageboard. Oh those were the days, how young and foolish we were. Of course I was just a young whippersnapper watching in awe on the sidelines as my elders and betters posted more and more eloquent insults.
