A father was told he was not allowed take pictures of his four-year-old son at a Sunderland shopping centre because of fears he could be a paedophile.
Kevin Geraghty-Shewan, of Kent, was challenged by a security guard at The Bridges after photographing his son Ben on a children's train ride.
He was told he could not prove Ben was his son and later quizzed by a police officer called to the centre.
Bosses at the shopping centre have apologised for the "misunderstanding". news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8539361.stmOn the surface this did seem outrageous but I am not so sure. I saw on this on Sky news last night and there seems to be a slight change to the story. On the TV, the father said the security guard asked him if he wanted to speak to a manager and the father declined. He then took a photograph of the security guard. If the father was so upset surely he could have talked to the management and I am sure it would have been smoothed over. I expect if his son was abucted or interefered with by a paedophile he would have blamed the mall and the police for failing to deal with the situation. Still at least here we have an example of a father looking after his son.

What utter rubbish! I had some experience of similar when asked not to video The Child's nativity play, for some similar groundless fear.
Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to understand that if a grown up is actually with the kid there is possibly a parental / guardian relationship, and if someone is clearly not "with" the child (walks off with camera, kid is with someone else etc) then there might be something dodgy
