Let's hear your views, if you care, please.
I say we have always managed without it and we don't need to emulate the BBC boards in this respect at this stage in our career.

I say keep our debates open, up front and on the board and not conducted via secret complaints and secret private messaging.
If you are Stasi-inclined, identify yourselves, please, just so we know!

No, I do not think one of thos catpee thingys is a good idea Mind you, I was on one board where you could designate oher postes as 'foes' if you wished. That stopped their postings appearing when you logged in. It was very useful for ignoring totally rude and unhelpful posters. Mind you, after a while, I noticed that no-one replied to me at all. I could not understand that ,so I asked the moderator what was going on, but recieved no reply.

I see you have a Report to Mod/Catpee Button on your board, sin. Maybe it was always here and I just didn't notice it. How do you get rid of it?

This is from the Proboards support forum.....
Report Post Feature Hi guys,
We are beta-ing our new Report to Moderator feature on this forum before rolling it out to all forums. You'll notice at the bottom right of this post next to "Link to Post" there is a nifty link you can use to report this post.
This should give you a quick and easy way to report any issue without needing to PM a moderator. You will be able to put a reason for your report in and moderators will discuss the issue internally from there. All moderators will have a message display on their screen with any active reports, so no more guessing about who is available and who isn't.

I was starting to suspect it could be a board innovation rather than jean's bright idea, sin.
Sorry, jean. I did you an injustice.

It's still moving proboards nearer to the BBC catpeeers charter territory. I don't like it. What's wrong with PMing a mod? At least you have to make a positive move to do so rather than making an instantaneous response via the on hand complaint facility.
I really think people should be encouraged either to respond to a post or to button their lip rather than whine to board admin about content. It's just not grown up. It's another dumbing down.
I was only unjust to jean in this one respect, nay. Otherwise I'm spot on.

My sympathies go to any mod on a board where members choose to play silly buggers by reporting every post.
Not that anyone would of course. ;D

Have your members used it, sin, or are they too grown up?

I've been pratting about on my board reporting my own posts to see how it works. In effect,a mod can do everything from ignoring the complaint to banning the poster. Pretty much the same as with a PM. But I agree with you.....I don't like it.

Have your members used it, sin, or are they too grown up? No....but then they probably haven't noticed it. And I'll ban the buggers if they start!
