BBC Closes radio4 Science Board.

Hello everyone,

We’re restructuring the Radio 4 messageboard and closing this topic on Thursday 9 September.

The purpose of the Radio 4 messageboard is to enable listeners to discuss Radio 4 programmes and we’re not able to host general discussions any longer.

You will, of course, be able to discuss Radio 4 Science programmes on the Choice is Yours topic.

We’re retaining the Drama & Readings and programme-specific topics – and Mornington Crescent as the humorous exception that breaks the rule.

I'm sorry if this news is disappointing.

It's not disappointing to me and it was expected. I referred to its coming several times in posts there since January. It was a nasty needling, tendentious place where people called you a liar or a troll if you contradicted them and complete outsiders would pile in with personal abuse against other people described as deniers and sceptics.

I don't mind being called a denier or a sceptic, myself. It makes a very nice and welcome distinction between me and alarmists that I am very happy to maintain.

The only thing that is worrying is that we may now receive some of the dispossessed from the BBC here! I think some of them are already here.

I guess Goddess's intervention will stop Lazarus spamming more like the dozen threads he opened here last week to herald his arrival - a distinctly provocative act from someone who portrays himself as a good faith poster. It was tantamount to marching into someone's home and claiming squatting rights!

There have always been folk hanging around the fringes of this board with a jealous eye on the grandstand Goddess created for me here and anxious to evict me from my snug little home should the opportunity arise. I know who they are.

When Goddess created "Marchesa's Climate Blog" specifically to be my playground she did one of the nicest things anyone in cyberspace has ever done for me. And I am very grateful.

Look at who has been the top poster and effectively "senior housemate" of this board since the start. For a long time no-one was interested in this board and I was caretaker of a very quiet, peaceful place. Maybe its going to liven up a bit. Good.

Very sorry if 'Havelock" thinks he's been deprived of his freedom to throw his weight about on my blog but it looks as if he has! Jean will offer him hospitality on the Discussions Board, I'm sure.

By the way Havelock, what ID did you post under on the BBC Science board since you appear to be very well informed about discussions there?

It's a mystery! Is everyone prevented from opening a thread, or just Havelock? You'll have to tell me. I have no way of knowing.

I think bets should open an "Inspired by the radio4 Science Board" Proboard then the ex-Beeb posters can migrate there and talk about anything they like without being censored. But somehow, I don't think most of them would appreciate a level playing field.

Many relied on the BBC permitting their harassment and needling of opponents and carrrying out their catpeeing to order. No-one minded that I was called a liar several times by ashley, listener and most recently a troll and a little tart by JoeK. They thought it was just great! That's what "deniers" deserve, after all. isn't it?

I am most especially pleased that the pathetic self-styled "Trollhunter" Joe K has lost one of his little fiefs but I guess he will just move on and harass other opponents from his cyberhovel .

I have a feeling that some of the needlers from the BBC could well wash up here. You probably know them already, aqua and jean. Be prepared to welcome JoeK, listener, Yellowcat, bluebiro, helen, kiteman, ScienceBiker and Princess Ann. They could be here in the click of a mouse to continue the aggro that they claim to deprecate and that the BBC has faciltated for so long. We'll see.

And who was that masked man, BTW, who called himself Havelock?

Now, what do we call somebody who posts insults about people behind their backs, whilst simultaneously complaining about the truthful comments they made to your face?

The deniers were winning the argument - hands down - so the board was closed.

I'm not sure that was the WHOLE of the reason for closure, Mr Smith, or even a tiny part! But it is true that the sceptics were winning the argument hands down.

I was particularly pleased with having vanquished listener in the "unprecedented late 20th Century warming" PLUS the "unprecedentd RATE of late 20th century warming" argument. It was a bit hard for her to argue with the words of Phil Jones in a BBC interview but I was nevertheless accused of "twisting her words". I think she must be JoeK's wife he was so very enraged about my demolition of her argument.

And another high point was having spotted the Richard Black error about rice yield falling and posting it on WUWT so that Anthony was able to email Black and get a retraction. You do these things in good faith and argue your case with references and chapter and verse and they STILL call you a liar!

Sadly listener is typical of so many. She very vehement about AGW. But terribly ill-informed about where the debates have been leading lately, especially since Climategate! There has been a sea-change both in the media and in the sort of research that is now getting coverage but so many of the most devout believers are unaware of it. I feel privileged that I have the time to devote to reading.

But the BBC Science board had become a nasty little cyberhovel of catpee-ers and self-styled Trollhunters. Very disturbing actually! I was absolutely gobsmacked to find myself on Trollhunter's blog where people were invited to "browbeat me".

What on earth goes on in the minds of these middle-aged men when they get into cyberspace? They seem to lose all sense of proportion. He is a member of Friends of the Earth. I suppose they inevitably attract a few eco-fascists. Not that I'm suggesting that type of person is typical of their membership. One would certainly HOPE not. I think Joe K is a sad soul who has lost his way, actually.

There is one whole lot of weird people out there amongst the warmists. No wonder they are topping themselves in desperation. Did you see this perfectly ghastly Greenpeace youtube video? It's extraordinarily disturbing, menacing and threatening. It's all of a piece with JoeK's trollhunter fantasy.

Why do so many of the ex-WH board gels state their gender as "undisclosed". It's a dead giveaway, even if the bitching weren't!

I always assume that board IDs which end in "man" (like Kiteman) or start with Mr (like Mr Red) are actually women. Why do they do this?

Strangely, there are not quite so many subterfuges in the other direction! I wonder why?
