The small man Builds cages for everyone He Knows.
While the sage, Who has to duck his head When the moon is low, Keeps dropping keys all night long For the Beautiful Rowdy Prisoners. --Hafiz

Lovely, pippa.
But which Hafiz was it?
Hafiz (Qur'an), a term used by Muslims for people who have completely memorized the Qur'an Hafez or Khwajeh Shams al-Din Muhammad Hafez-e Shirazi, an Iranian mystic and poet. Sometimes credited as "Hafiz" or "Hafiz of Shiraz". al-Hafiz (d. 1149), the eleventh Caliph of the Fatimids Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977), Egyptian singer and actor Hafez al-Assad (1930-2000), president of Syria from 1971 to 2000

hafizmuch - good, isn't he? i do hope you're not trying to catch me out marchesa, like Aubrey with Joe and the bach flowers?
those words come from Hafiz or Hafez - 14th century persian sufi poet who celebrates wine women and song. and, also exposing hyprocrisy of those who set themselves up as guardians, judges, and examples of moral rectitude. the same one, i believe (didn't know there were so many) who is the author of ' i heard god laughing'. i've been to his tomb in Shiraz.

Catching people out with my great erudition is not my scene, pippa. Not that I could, anyway.
It's the second one then.

no i didn't think it was your style. you're much more straight forward than to set traps. i should have added one of those nudge/wink smilies to my question.
10/10. not only so many Hafez's, the spelling's confusing.
