hard to convey how sad it was to hear today of the death of Gill Scott-Heron - he was only 62. the black american poet and musician is the grandfather of rap. he wrote 'the revolution will not be televised' when he was just 20. guardian obituarywith links to a video and other bits. his latest album, you can listen to all the tracks by clicking on the links on album cover picture 'I'm New Here' was released in february last year. there's sadness in his voice - you can tell he's been on the skids. 'on coming from a broken home pts 1 and 2' is a tender tribute to his grandmother, lily scott who he was sent to live with as a young child while things were being "patched up" at home. the album was four years in the making - ever since he was tracked down in prison and an offer made to him to produce it. another good soul bites the dust.

What a terrible loss . I was shocked that it didnt even seem to make the news This has to be right up there as one of the finest . The perspective of time allows the musical cream to rise to the top ........ www.youtube.com/watch?v=upKsTCKYm4E
