The 18th Climate Change Summit in Doha is drawing to an end after once again failing to find common consensus on what it calls a major threat to human existence. Failure seemed inevitable after climate skeptic Lord Monckton crashed the event. The Russian TV channel “RT” aka “TV-Novosti rt.com/news/climate-change-summit-failure-518/I say, that's pushing the Viscount's influence over the COP a tad far isn't it?

I think here's more of an "Independent", Aubrey.

Anti Europe, anti immigration, anti council housing - the usual stuff. A bit of a fantasist as well - "Thatcher's science advisor" (no, according to other people around at the time) "a member of the Upper House but without the right to sit or vote" (no such thing).
His AGW denial is of a piece with the rest of his views: even if you didn't know about it, you'd look at his history and be about 95% sure he'd be one of those as well.
Right wingers always call themselves independent. UKIP are to the right of the Conservatives. There's not an argument there.

But thanks for introducing me to him. I mean, I'd heard of him before, but had no idea of what an utter loon he is.

His first degree was in Classics, which probably tells you all you need to know, since (as is well known) Latin
...is, basically, as far as language learning goes, the rules of the Highway Code. An artificial language, constructed to strictly enforced rules, frozen in stone from its very inception...
Useless to expect the ability to think constructively from such a person.

Has anyone, god forbid, ever suggested to YOU that YOUR views are "all of a piece", aubrey? Or do you escape the usual pattern that our opinions tend to be "consistent". Perhaps you believe that your own views are "objective and "value free', for some reason?
If you had ever demonstrated any sign of knowing anything at all about climatic variables, science or the scientific method one might be prepared to listen to your opinions about people who do. But alas, your views will for ever be destined for the "crass" and "ignorant" bin.

When has an immersion in classics prevented you from dabbling in Green politics, jean? Now, now, people in glass houses etc etc... Lord Monckton pulled a stunt that got the attention of some folks and we thank him from bringing a little lightness into this assembly of po-faced rent seekers demanding compensation for "climate debt". Tell, us, what do YOU think is the per capita level of "climate debt" owed by we British to the rest of the world, jean? I think having bequeathed them cricket, soccer and golf should cover it nicely, myself. Have a read of this paper, jean, if a mere classicist is up to it, and discover how sea level is hardly rising at all when all the adjustments are removed - but you new that after decades of paddling your toes in the sea at New Brighton, I expect. Did you ever get to grips with NOAA's interactive tide gauge word map? That might be a good idea for Aubrey, IF he could be arsed. However it is much easier for him to stick to his "values" rather than bother his head with mere "facts". scienceandpublicpolicy.org/images/stories/papers/reprint/sea_level_not_rising.pdfIt is by Nils Axel Morner, who only has 547 peer reviewed articles to his name and is probably the most eminent oceanographer in the world. Here's NOAA's tide gauge mp for you and your pals to fiddle with tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends.shtml

Well, they have - you have, for a start - and I've never denied it. I'm well known around various boards as a bloody pinko liberal, or even a hard left communist Stalin supporter blah blah blah, even though I don't agree with the general "left view" on quite a lot of things (stuff to do with censorship, for eg).
Environmentalism has always been a Left wing cause, which is largely the reason why right-wingers don't like it.
And for someone who reckons not to have much truck with the Left and Right terms, you've always been happy to use euphemisms for groupings of Left wing ideas, such as PC and Right-on.
