In a previous posting I referred to the Barnett Formula, this was crude calculation made to allocate money to the countries that made up the UK, with not account taken for need. It's own developer didn't anticipate it being used for so long. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnett_formulaWhich allocates approximately £1600 more per head to Scotland than to England. When the comments have been made about changing or removing the Barnett formula have been made, the responses I have heard from Scotland are that they contribute most to the UK coffers so they should get more back. I thought that socialist/Labour believed that everybody should contribute what they can, hence the tax and Nation Insurance we pay. Then the state provides what an individual needs state schools and NHS etc. I'm sure there are parts of Scotland where there is the need for the extra £1600 per head, just as I'm sure there are parts of England who equal need the extra £1600. I'm equally sure that there are parts of Scotland where there is not the need.Shouldn't there be a more equatable division of state funding than a formula developed on the back of a fag packet more than thirty years ago?
