Many people other than you consider that there are moral absolutes, and indeed consider the position that there are no moral absolutes as absurd. For example, if you really do hold the position that there are no moral absolutes then why do you object to the Moslem religion's subjugation of women? I object because I find it a repellant practice. I find it distasteful, objectionable and revolting. But half the world, and indeed a lot more than half the world a few decades ago, thought it completely morally OK so, not an absolute then. Relatively speaking.

You are excused
Just because I do not think something is "right" does not mean that I cannot recognise where someone else might think otherwise. You do no consider abortions to be "right" but others do not share your view, so it is not an absolute

I've got "Inter-racial romance". That's what I advocate as the way forward out of this awful "Multicultural Society".

A moral absolute is not a numerical matter, jade, nor a matter for democratic approval.

You're going to be talking to no one on here if you don't watch out, Joe. You already ignore me (shame over the BWV thing, I assume), and now Jade. Who else?

Is this the point you are making, Aubrey?
"The fundamental premise of this blog is that you get to the essence of a culture via its talents, not its problems."
Or am I talking about moral absolutes on the wrong thread?

Political Correctness is a system devised by those in positions of power. It is there to control our speech, our actions and indeed our very thoughts. If you can get everyone singing from the chosen hymnsheet they will give you very little trouble. ;D

damn i'm cross with myself for forgetting to post a link to the afternoon play on 30th Dec.
'did i say that' by Mark Lawson. was a particularly poignant portrayal, so relevant to this thread, and a quite believable workplace (white collar) scenario. especially in this current climate of ridiculous petty pc policing of those who do not carefully guard their speech at work.
it highlighted the dangers of policies designed to police free speech in the workplace. where a man finds himself cornered by petty minded individuals who are either too stupid or unwilling to use their common sense. the subsequent tribunal and class he was made to attend was farcical.
thankfully the man trapped at the centre of the dispute was strong enough to handle his ordeal; the spurious complaint made against him, his accusers, mediators and the daft class he had to attend to mend his ways.
i wonder whether anyone else heard it? looking forward to the repeat.
