oh that, the fact i leave a space at the end of my text? just personal choice re layout - that's all. does it make it awkward to quote then? i hadn't thought of that. Not difficult, I just wondered what the rationale was. On another board, I like to keep my signature ('REMAIN INDOORS') a line below the line that separates it from the main post, so I have to insert a full stop... vbulletin.thesite.org/showthread.php?p=2368126#post2368126in a rush as i have things to be getting on with. but reading subsequent posts since my last one leaves me with a mixture of incredulity, outrage, and laughter. i'm really flummoxed by this line of enquiry. are you really suggesting i change my posting style??? so that you don't have to delete the line spaces at the end of my text when quoting me??? WHAT??? i do that in any case (delete spare lines when i quote) there is quote quite a difference with the linked example you showed and my signature which has a smaller text size and a few lines long giving the appearant of text running into my sig. i was being polite in engaging with you on this, but you have subsequently chosen to persue it. i could have just said, who are you to tell me how to post, or, bog off, there's a good lad. this is a wind-up, shirley. there is life outside school, joek

accusation implies wrongdoing. if you mean my post where i remarked that jean was posting as simplex on the science forum, well that was just something i happened to notice and made a comment. there was no "accusation", as obviously, anyone is entitled to register under whichever name they choose wherever like. good grief, is there some sort of policing on this? how odd. Now who's wasting whose time? People are also entitled to post on public message boards whenever they see fit, as long as they abide by the house rules, what i said... what are you on about? what are you on about??? spit it out. secrets.... what secrets? joek, there is a life outside school.

Pippa, if you did post as mercury and you are not prepared to acknowledge that you did, then clearly you're hoping that your posting as mercury will remain a secret.
I've suggested that you would like it to appear that you are not the only person in the world to be obsessed with what you see as slanderous libel (or is it libellous slander?) directed at the poster sometimes known as naymissus.
It is my (purely speculative) view that that is the reason why you are being so coy about your identity on the Science board.
It's interesting to note that the poster sometimes known as naymissus has been pushing the boundaries again on MCL - using the most racist language he can think of, and then claiming that it somehow proves he's not racist at all , really. MCL nearly got closed down yesterday because of it, it seems.

It is my (purely speculative) view that that is the reason why you are being so coy about your identity on the Science board. coy? dont be so daft, Miss. since when was i answerable to you? your schoolmarmish nature is very off putting. you'd be wise to remember that i am not beholden to anyone least of all you, or any of your flunky's jeanhartrick. so, it is for me to know whether or not i am mercury and for you to fish and find out - speculate away. proboards is a north american based site, isn't it. are none of use aware that generally they do not do irony at all well on the other side of the pond, and very often have a poor grasp of satyr. (naymissus does satyr and irony extremely well.) there is often a wide cultural difference in the subtle nuances of language useage which can render their (n.america) understanding somewhat lacking. it would seem that is is the same with you. and, i should be very very carefull who you go labelling as being racist, homophobic, etc, if i were you. all too quickly do you bandy these labels about, jeanhartrick. just because someone does not slot neatly into you blinkered definition of categories and labels, it does not necessarily mean they are actually homophobic or racist or have a sense of their own 'racial' superiority. another of my complaints about you and others of your ilk/mindset. i would look a lot closer to home if i were you, ie: among your cakeboard pals, for the culprit who has gone squealing to proboards. they do seem have acquired a reputation for it.

But 'incredulity, outrage, and laughter' sounds like hard work. Maybe you should try and read less into things...

So you said. Surprisingly, I don't see much school between Xmas and New Year's, and little more after that. I said I didn't see that it needed to be such a big secret if you posted as Mercury (or mercury, as small case seems to be the fashion here). You seem to think otherwise, but resort to semantics to avoid confessing (but I shouldn't use 'confessing', as it implies wrongdoing) that it evidently is a big secret for you. No biggie, no one is fussed if you want to crash a science board and not talk about science, to defend someone who is well capable of taking care of himself, and at least as great a disruptive influence as any of the posters you castigate

so, it is for me to know whether or not i am mercury and for you to fish and find out... It's all right, pippa, we know. It's been obvious from the first. I have no time at all for people who go 'squealing' to Proboards, pippa. I don't know who it was. They didn't discuss it with me. However, I do think that nay is an old racist/homophobe - the double bluff technique is not that clever - and while he is sometimes very funny, he's not much of an ironist, either.

""we" know" eh? is that the group think or just whichever clique you' happen to be associating yourself with. another little smear campaign to justify you hounding individuals you don't like.

another little smear campaign to justify you hounding individuals you don't like. All I know about this poster is what he writes on messageboards. I don't like or dislike people on the basis of that. I happen to think that the views he expresses are racist and homophobic - but no-one has to take my word for it, as he posts them all over the place. Sometmes I reply, sometimes I don't - does that count as hounding? - but it's better if the posts are left to stand, so that others can judge for themselves. The Madrigal Cyber Lounge is a good place to start, though the more extreme posts have been removed, to protect the Board. But there are probably a good few left on here, if anyone cares to look.

I don't like or dislike people on the basis of that. and here we have the cloak of reasonableness. i don't believe that for one minute. jm is a "sad sad creature", remember saying that. "you don't know him like we (notice the 'we' again) know him", said about a fair few of your bete noirs that you like to bandy about. of course, taken at face value, instead of seeing the satyr, many of his postings do sound racist. but remember he has had the pc cakeboard police on his msg board back for a number of years and he refuses to buckle to pc language. this of course does not make him a racist.

But it doesn't mean I dislike him. How could I? I don't know him. Anyone who spends his cyberlife looking for people he can imagine are persecuting him is indeed sad, and deserves pity. Sorry - tried to resist, failed. But satire has to have an object and a purpose, pippa. It's no good just posting a load of racist tripe and then bleating 'I was just being satirical', or 'I was striking a blow against political correctness'.

the incredulity outrage and laughter was directed at all the posts since my previous one, joek, not just your about my choice of posting style. However many posts it is directed at, it still sounds like hard work, and not really worth it. There was really nothing to get confused about. You put the extra lines thing down to your posting style, and I gave an example of something I did which might puzzle other people. Again, unless you try to inject some purpose that isn't there, not something to fret over.

...unless you already are, as Mercury, of course... We may suspect this, JoeK, but we do not know. We must never assert more than we know. I think we could make an exception in this case though Jean. After all, Pippa's assertions regularly take on the mantle of fact regardless of how flimsy the evidence is.
