i think you've kind of shot yourselves in the foot. Why, pippa? If you're right and Ben Zene is sinistral, her appearance here is not my doing. She is a free agent, a recent ex-member who knows where the board is. But why not just read what other posters say and respond to it, rather than imagine everything is part of some great conspiracy against you? |

Pippa, I think it is you who need to escape from the school playground. You've made a number of allegations against other posters. Why on earth should any of them not answer you, without being supposed to be part of some anti-pippa conspiracy? On the Posting Style thread, I made a positive suggestion. Just tell me where you have serious discussions - about politics, say - with other posters, without niggling or needling, without belittling people, all the things I do as a matter of course when I think I am disagreeing with people quite politely and constructively. I want to see how it's done, pippa. I want a model to follow. But you have ignored my post. |

Pippa, you've posted over 500 times on this board, and it's hard to believe, on the face of it, that most of them weren't about your perceptions of people 'ganging up' (the Stephen Hawking thread is one notable exception). What do you get out of this board? Someone, Jade I think, tried to encourage some positive threads, but that trailed off. You only come here to be negative. Even the new thread on MCL you posted started with mention of a 'horrible squealer' getting their 'malicious way', followed by an attack (sorry, attack implies wrongdoing) on Jean, alluded to here, which lacked any substance. Question; do you think the police 'ganged up' on Raoul Moat? If someone joined this board, or any other, and proceeded to be a complete arsehole, and everyone said so, would that be 'ganging up'? The problem is not, it seems to me, that people like to conspire to attack certain posters, but that nobody trusts the mods to deal with disruption. I was reading the 'catpee' thread started by Marchesa last night, and there it was, the rather false logic that 'adults' should police themselves on the boards when realistically, that just leads to threads (like this one) going horribly off topic, with flimsy accusations flying fitfully. The technical beauty of the conspiracy theory is that whether people tell you you're right, or wrong, or just ignore you, it all bolsters the theory. The most annoying thing one can say on message boards is 'if you don't like it here, post somewhere else', but if there is a place you post where you don't get the aggro you seem to experience here, cherish it. Or, and this may be risky, ask the posters there to consider this thread, and whether you have grounds to be so judgemental. This is assuming, of course, that there is a board where you don't feel people are ganging up on you..? |

Well, it is a fact that nay/joe had been using language on MCL that could be deemed racist. It is a fact that the board has been pulled. More than that I have not asserted as fact. I do happen to believe that the racist language is part of a curious ploy to go so far that you could not possibly be thought to be serious, and therefore are not racist at all. Pippa thinks it's satire. Aqua probably has some convoluted ideas of his own. Probably I do. You're alluding to the fact that I said I wasn't prepared to call him a racist, quite yet. Actually, I've hardly read anything of MCL in the last week, and can't now in view of the shutdown, so I don't know whether I'd be prepared to call him one even yet, either. 'Homophobe', almost certainly, tho. Back to racism. Personally, even tho I've been an 'anti-racist' since the 60s, I think we're all naturally racist. But don't rest on your laurels! Think Global! Can it be right, or even in our best interests, to think Little Britain? What game Nay has been playing all these years with his seemingly racist remarks, I do not finally know. He riled a lot of people; he raised some laughs; maybe he made some of us think about our own situations. For instance, for a few decades, as white middle-class. I've fought against racism (amongst other things) from an abstract viewpoint. I still tend to do so - until something jolts me into remembering my middle son married a black African Muslim and converted to Islam himself! And they bluddy had the cheek to come for Christmas too! |
